The Internet is a worldwide network of interconnected computer networks transmitting data through cable, via air, across millions of miles of fiber optic media. You don’t see it. You don’t know where you are looking when you pull up a website. But you do it anyway. You search for things. You purchase things you want. You get knowledge from this obscure entity.

How can you take something so mysterious and use it to your good? What can you do to jump on the internet bandwidth to make your presence known to the world? What can the internet do to increase your business’ revenue? What effects can an internet presence do for your business?
That can be something that is even more mystifying. You know you need to do it, but how.

Let’s break it down into simplified steps.

First you need a website. This is something that people can see when they want information about your company. The website needs to be interesting and aesthetically pleasing. Design your website so that it mirrors your business style and philosophy. It should tell the viewer about your business and what your business can offer the viewer. It needs to look professional. The look of your site can increase your credibility. You want your viewers to enjoy being there. Make them want to stay. Change and update your site on a regular basis to encourage viewers to return.

Secondly, you must be found on the internet. It doesn’t do any good to put a website on the internet, if no one goes there. Create a domain name that reflects your business. Advertise your site. Put your site on all your business media. Make your site search engine friendly. If you need to hire someone to research keywords and write copy for your site, do it. Search Engine Optimization includes a title, description and keyword rich content. Your site must be easily accessible to your target market.

Thirdly, drive people to your site. Announce your site to your current customers. Make it easy for them to tell their friends about your site. Offer free things if they give you permission to communicate with them. This is considered internet marketing.

Continually communicate with people who have given you permission to contact them. Offer them incentives to go to your site through surveys, games and free knowledge. You may need to start this process with post cards or letters. However, the best way to do this is through email. Keep a database with customer data. Make sure you have their email address.

Soon you will find the traffic to your site will increase, your sales will increase. You will find that you have a business entity on the internet. You may wonder where your internet site resides. You may be mystified by where the people have come from who visit your site. But as your business grows and new customers are added to your database, the mystery won’t matter.

You’ve jumped on the bandwidth and ridden the fiber optic cable to the bank.
